Golden hued light contrasts a powdering of star dust from the black Sun creates an ambient zone in this film photograph. The abstract seascape of the Sun, the bright sunlight on the Pacific ocean is reversed from its normally perceived colors. In this dream-like image, we see a golden world-scape, with what might at first thought a black Sun seem like an ominous image, here the Sun’s golden light becomes the sky water and land, and the Sun itself and its reflected light on the ocean waves perhaps a portal to the dark night.

Engelund’s creative process juxtaposes material and the spirit, a new existential, a new way of seeing. Photographed on the coast of California, Fields of the Sun 38 presents elements of the landscape that evoke the mysterious feeling of the mythic coastline.
