Ambient zone of aquamarine blue, this photograph is an abstract seascape of bright sunlight on the Pacific ocean mingling with a field of wild calla-lilies. The striking black envelopes the composition and showcases the entire 4 x 5” film negative. Scanned in full the film photo negative shows the composition created in camera, through multiple exposure and light leak. 

Engelund’s creative process juxtaposes material and the spiritual, a new existential, a new way of seeing. Photographed on the coast of California, Fields of the Sun 29 presents elements of the landscape, the wild calla-lilies and the ocean, that evoke the mysterious feeling of the mythic coastline.
